We take a holistic, integrated approach to education that nurtures and sustains al-insān al-kāmil (the whole person) by educating the qalb (heart) ‘aql (mind), rūḥ (soul), and jism (body).
Montessori is a scientifically based educational approach that emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. It was developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori in the early 1900s. Our pedagogical approach is based on the Montessori method, but the genius of this method is that it is harmonious with the fundamental created nature of the child, and thus, lends itself to adaptation to the Islamic understanding of the human being.
LVMS’s approach to early childhood education is rooted in the following:
Our educational goals are to:
Sound Islamic tarbiyyah creates a fully integrated individual who understands that Islam is a comprehensive system that addresses all spheres of life (i.e. the Qur’anic worldview). Young children develop good character by seeing and experiencing it. They unconsciously absorb all that is around them and emulate what they see.
Thus, a strong relationship between home and school is vital. We strongly believe a child’s well-being depends on the collaboration between the adults in his life. For this reason, we emphasize alignment between parents and school during the admissions process. Prior to enrolling, parents agree to be actively involved and to attend parent education workshops throughout the school year. We encourage extended family members to attend and participate whenever and wherever appropriate. In order to build a village of God-conscious, lifelong learners, consistent attendance and active participation from the primary adults in each child's life is required.
